Three Sherbrooke Businesses and One Student Nominated for the 2013 OCTAS Awards
Four projects led by businesses and a student from Sherbrooke are finalists for the 2013 OCTAS Awards, which recognize excellence in Québec’s information-technology (IT) field.
Magex Technologies is competing in the Mobile Solutions category for its property-management software Proprio Expert Web, which stands out for its flexibility, web accessibility, and ease of use. The expertise of Révolution Linux in open-source software was put to good use by the legal content website Éducaloi, finalist in the Business-Solution: Free-Software category. In a project aimed at enhancing management of its web content, Éducaloi integrated two open-source packages, Nuxeo and Drupal, into its practice. The project, carried out in collaboration with Révolution Linux and TP1, enabled Éducaloi to optimize its work processes by more than 60%.
SMA, Solutions de Micro-Apprentissage
The Sherbrooke company SMA, Solutions de Micro-Apprentissage (microlearning solutions) cooperated on the collaborative Alzheimer’s-related learning-platform project developed by the Baluchon Alzheimer’s organization. The project was nominated in the IT-Serving-Society category.
The platform is intended for specialized health-care professionals offering respite and home care for families with a family member with Alzheimer’s disease. It gives them access to an international virtual community, caregiver’s diary, guides, videos, training, and resources.
Université de Sherbrooke
Nil Goyette, a master’s student in computer science in Université de Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Science, is one of three finalists in the Student-Succession: University-Levelcategory. His project, The CD.net Database, is the world’s largest database dedicated to motion detection. The tool makes it possible to objectively validate video-surveillance software.
The 2013 OCTAS winners will be revealed on May 25 at a gala being held at the Montréal Convention Centre (Palais des congrès à Montréal). Prizes will be awarded in 23 categories.
