Four Sherbrooke Winners at the 2015 ADRIQ Innovation Awards

Sherbrooke shone at the Innovation Awards Gala hosted by ADRIQ (Association pour le développement de la recherche et de l’innovation du Québec – an organization working towards the development of research and innovation in Québec): MI-Intégration, the Université de Sherbrooke, as well as Vincent and Esteban Chornet from Enerkem were award winners.

MI-IntégrationMI-Intégration

MI-Intégration, specialized in mould design and manufacturing and in the injection of parts mainly for the automotive industry, won the award in the manufacturing category. The business entity is comprised of the companies Moules Industriels (Sherbrooke), Plastech (Sherbrooke), and SLP M.I. Integración (Mexico).

MI-Intégration has developed a technology that is unique on the market: a robotic head applies a product to sealing parts to facilitate sliding. This process results in consistency, steadiness, time gain, and cost reduction.

One of the two technological partnership awards was given to the international innovation collaborative centre C2MI for its infrared imaging project, developed in collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke, DALSA, and Polytechnique Montréal. This partnership enabled the development of the technologies required for designing, developing, and manufacturing high-performance infrared sensors at a low cost.

Finally, the builder – innovative business award was presented to Esteban Chornet and his son Vincent, respectively Cofounder and Chief Technology Officer and President and Chief Executive Officer of Enerkem. This company’s revolutionary process for converting waste material into biofuels and green chemicals has been inspired by the research work of Esteban Chornet at the Université de Sherbrooke. The adventure into marketing started in 2000. The company now has 200 employees in Canada and in the United States.
