Three Sherbrooke Businesses and One Student Nominated for the 2013 OCTAS Awards
Four projects led by businesses and a student from Sherbrooke are finalists for the 2013 OCTAS Awards, which recognize excellence in Québec’s information-technology (IT) field.
Magex Technologies
Magex Technologies is competing in the Mobile Solutions category for its property-management software Proprio Expert Web, which stands out for its flexibility, web accessibility, and ease of use. Language, legislation, and management method figure among the features can be changed, meaning that Proprio Expert Web can be used for national and international markets.
Révolution Linux
The expertise of Révolution Linux in open-source software was put to good use by the legal content website Éducaloi, finalist in the Business-Solution: Free-Software category. In a project aimed at enhancing management of its web content, Éducaloi integrated two open-source packages, Nuxeo and Drupal, into its practice. The project, carried out in collaboration with Révolution Linux and TP1, enabled Éducaloi to optimize its work processes by more than 60%.
SMA, Solutions de Micro-Apprentissage
The Sherbrooke company SMA, Solutions de Micro-Apprentissage (microlearning solutions) cooperated on the collaborative Alzheimer’s-related learning-platform project developed by the Baluchon Alzheimer’s organization. The project was nominated in the IT-Serving-Society category.
The platform is intended for specialized health-care professionals offering respite and home care for families with a family member with Alzheimer’s disease. It gives them access to an international virtual community, caregiver’s diary, guides, videos, training, and resources.
Université de Sherbrooke
Nil Goyette, a master’s student in computer science in Université de Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Science, is one of three finalists in the Student-Succession: University-Levelcategory. His project, The CD.net Database, is the world’s largest database dedicated to motion detection. The tool makes it possible to objectively validate video-surveillance software.
The 2013 OCTAS winners will be revealed on May 25 at a gala being held at the Montréal Convention Centre (Palais des congrès à Montréal). Prizes will be awarded in 23 categories.
