Dr. Maher Boulos, co-founder of Tekna and professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, has received the prestigious Plasma Chemistry Award (PCA). It is the highest honour bestowed by the International Plasma Chemistry Society (IPCS), recognizing the outstanding contribution of a researcher in the field of plasma chemistry.

The awards ceremony took place during the annual ISPC-22 symposium, in Anvers, Belgium. Mr. Boulos was also invited to give a lecture on transport phenomena in thermal plasmas.

Professor at Université de Sherbrooke since 1973, Mr. Boulos was head of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1980 to 1986, and founded the Plasma Technology Research Centre (CRTP), which he led from 1981 to 2004. He is also an active researcher with more than 200 published articles.

Also during this period, the engineer founded Tekna Plasma Systems in Sherbrooke, with fellow researcher Jerzy Jurewicz in 1990, and then Tekna Advanced Materials in 2010. The group now has more than 80 employees, with sales and services offices in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Boulos has received numerous honours over the years, including the Lionel-Boulet award in 2007, the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Québec.
