Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) Rector, Luce Samoisette, and Université de Lyon President, Khaled Bouabdallah, signed a strategic agreement to reinforce their collaboration on the levers of innovation and entrepreneurship on November 21, 2016.

The agreement was signed in Lyon, as part of the 2016 Entretiens Jacques Cartier which took place in that city from November 21 to 23.

This five-year agreement will involve the joint implementation of a series of actions intended to create a partnership ecosystem based on the applied fundamental research, technological transfer, social innovation, and the entrepreneurial spirit that distinguish the two institutions.

These two institutions have already identified five areas of collaboration to be developed as part of this strategic agreement:

  • Adopting a mutual support policy on entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Promoting the mutual exchange of information on entrepreneurial and innovation projects.
  • Developing innovative education programs.
  • Reinforcing collaboration among students from the two sites on entrepreneurial or innovation projects.
  • Engaging the academic and socioeconomic ecosystems.

This cooperation has already proved profitable with the welcoming of entrepreneurs who have come directly from Europe to study the possibility of setting up and developing a business in Canada, and vice versa. In fact, at the time of the signing of the agreement, three Sherbrooke entrepreneurs were in Lyon for that purpose.

It should be noted that the UdeS has collaboration agreements with more than 60 countries. It welcomes more than 2200 international students and enrolled immigrants from 88 countries and territories.
