SOS Odours becomes Purodora Lab to propel its growth

PRESS RELEASE SOS Odours today unveiled its new identity, Purodora Lab (purodoralab.com). The Sherbrooke-based company wants to better reflect the proven technology behind its odor neutralizers, which have all been redesigned to be even more eco-friendly, and to facilitate its exporting goals.

For Purodora Lab president Josée Samson, who took over the family business in 2014: “This is a natural evolution in every sense of the word. Firstly, because we have removed all dyes from our odor neutralizers to make them even more environmentally responsible – and now they are certified as such. Secondly, because we hope to expand our market beyond Québec in the coming years. We needed a more evocative name that’s easy to pronounce in other languages.”

This change of identity is also accompanied by Samson’s two children, David and Andréa, joining as company shareholders. “They’re bringing new energy and ambitions,” says Samson, mentioning the upcoming construction of a brand new plant in Sherbrooke. “It’s thrilling to be embarking on this new chapter of our history. The company was founded over 35 years ago, but we’re still pursuing the same objective: Helping everyone enjoy a healthy living environment that’s free of unwanted odors.”

New, greener products

Purodora Lab is also unveiling an enhanced product offering that’s in line with its new brand image. All products are now grouped under four lines – home, pet, personal care and professional (wholesale). New Purodora Lab products include hand soaps, laundry detergent and pet odor eliminators.

Like all Purodora Lab products, these new products use the company’s innovative and proven molecular technology to completely eliminate unwanted odors at the source, not just mask them.

Purodora Lab products are available at over 1,500 retailers across Canada, as well as through the company’s enhanced online store at purodoralab.com.

Developed with safety in mind for families, animals and the planet, all Purodora Lab odor-neutralizing products are officially certified biodegradable in 28 days according to the OECD 301D standard. They contain no silicones, phthalates, parabens or sodium laureth sulfate (SLS and SLES) and are never tested on animals. All Purodora Lab pet and personal care products are also dermatologically approved as non-irritating.

Purodora Lab products are more than just safe and responsible. They’re designed and manufactured to the highest quality standards. Both upstream and downstream, they are developed and verified by experienced chemists who develop their recipes according to the strictest industry standards. Among other things, each batch is controlled to ensure consistent quality and efficacy.

Purodora Lab already integrates the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion into its management. More recently, it has also taken steps to obtain B Corp certification, which attests to a company’s social and environmental performance.

Major expansion to come

To support its growth momentum, Purodora Lab will move into a new purpose-built R&D and production facility in the coming year. The $4 million expansion project will allow the company to triple its surface area, with the possibility of adding another production line. Between 7 and 10 new jobs will be created in the process. The new facilities will be located on Joseph-Louis-Mathieu St. in the Sherbrooke Regional Industrial Park.

Purodora Lab has received the support of Sherbrooke Innopole in its projects, including location assistance with the collaboration of the City of Sherbrooke. “We are very proud to see the growth momentum that Purodora Lab is experiencing,” says Myriam Bélisle, Director, Business Services – Cleantech at Sherbrooke Innopole. “It’s an example of a family business that has been able to reinvent itself over the years by keeping the principles of sustainable development and innovation at the heart of its mission. It also shows its willingness to make a real and inspiring mark on all its partner suppliers and customers,” she adds. The economic development corporation, which serves the industrial and technological sectors, is mainly financed by the City of Sherbrooke through the Bureau de coordination du développement économique.
