Physics: Simon Fafard from Université de Sherbrooke Awarded the CAP Medal

Simon Fafard, Professor at the Department of electrical and computer engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke, was awarded the 2017 CAP medal for outstanding achievement in industrial and applied physics. He was presented this CAP award in recognition of his advances over 20 years of applied research on solid-state physics, together with his continuing efforts to market and patent his discoveries and establish his own businesses.

“I am most honoured that the Canadian physics community has chosen me as the recipient of the CAP medal for outstanding achievement. Designing successful applications in the field of physics is rewarding in itself. It is a privilege for me to be awarded this medal and I hope it will inspire others to work hard in this field,” noted Professor Fafard.

Simon Fafard si cofounder and president of the sherbrooke company Azastra Opto, which produce photonic energy converters with high conversion efficiencies.
