IngeniArts and the Cégep de Sherbrooke Honoured at the Forces Avenir Gala

Sherbrooke brilliantly distinguished itself at the various Forces Avenir 2014 galas: IngeniArts, a start-up company founded at the Université de Sherbrooke, as well as two projects from the Cégep de Sherbrooke, were awarded with honours.

IngeniArts: an electrifying company!

IngeniArts Technologies was crowned overall winner of the Forces Avenir university gala in the Entrepreneurship, Business and Economy category.

Directed by two electrical engineering graduates from the UdeS, Rami Jarjour and Philippe Beauchamp, the company developed a new type of improved high-performance electric battery that is more compact, eco-friendly, and sustainable than what is currently available on the fast-growing market of hybrid and electric transportation.

To date, the prototype, lab-designed by IngeniArts, has confirmed the business potential of the new smart battery.

The Université de Sherbrooke received another award at the Forces Avenir gala, crowning university-level award recipients in the Arts, Literature and Culture category for the Hairspray project carried out by the Broadway FMSS troupe (Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé).

Humanitarian and technological projects at the Cégep

During the gala for college programs, projects Les moulins du soleil and Les porteurs d’eau, led by students of the Cégep de Sherbrooke, were awarded the highest honour: the Committed Project Par Excellence AVENIR award.

Under the guidance of teacher Pierre Masson, mechanical engineering and industrial maintenance technology students designed and implemented a millet mill and a water pumping and treatment system in Senegal that are both solar-powered.

A $15 000 grant was issued with the award, which will be used to pursue these projects through the coming years.

The new 2014-2015 class is working to simplify the use of mills and adapt them to the restrictions of Senegalese communities.
