Enerkem Produces a New High-octane Biofuel

Enerkem’s Innovation Centre in Westbury has just made a major breakthrough by producing a new high-octane biofuel from waste.

In collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the United States, Enerkem’s team has developed a process based on its exclusive waste-to-biomethanol conversion technology to produce a biofuel that can reach an octane rating of up to 112 – 20 points higher than the average octane rating found in regular fossil-fuel gasoline.

This high-performance biofuel could be used as an additive in regular fuel, including in the sectors of aviation and professional motorsports. It could also become an alternative fuel.
