Enerkem Launches Research Project on Drop-In Renewable Fuels

Enerkem

Enerkem remains focused on revolutionizing the field of biofuels: the Sherbrooke company has announced that it will be conducting a new R&D project to develop a process that can turn waste into renewable fuels that can replace conventional gasoline without any additives.

These fuels are called drop-in fuels because they are fully interchangeable with hydrocarbons such as diesel and jet fuel.

The research project will be conducted in collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke at Enerkem’s pilot facilities in Sherbrooke.

The Government of Canada, through Natural Resources Canada, is investing $1.1 million in the project.

In more technical terms, Enerkem wants to develop new catalytic processes to convert waste into drop-in fuels. It intends to build on its technology platform to achieve this goal.
