The City of Sherbrooke has received Carbon Care certification from Enviro-access for initiatives implemented in recent years to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs).

In addition to being one of the first municipalities in Québec to earn this recognition, Sherbrooke is also one of the few cities in the province to have, in 2012, developed a climate change adjustment plan.

Since 2009, the city has surveyed its GHGs, which paved the way to develop an action plan geared to achieve a 5% reduction in GHGs by 2015.

Many of the plan’s 72 actions have already been put into place, including four electric-vehicle charging stations, the acquisition of hybrid or electric vehicles, and implementation of an idling ordinance.

According to the 2009 survey, public transportation accounts for 92% of the GHGs generated by the population.
