Oneka Technologies Awarded a $50,000 Bursary
The young Sherbrooke company Oneka Technologies recently received a $50 000 Pierre-Péladeau bursary–the largest bursary offered by Québecor each year to support the next generation of entrepreneurs studying in university.
The founders, Dragan Tutić and Renaud Lafortune, have developed autonomous desalination units that can produce drinking water harnessing energy from only wave movement.
Pierre Dion, President and Chief Executive Officer of Québecor and Québecor Média, Renaud Lafortune (Oneka Technologies), Dragan Tutic (Oneka Technologies), the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, C.P., C.C., LL.D, President of the Concil, Québecor and Québecor Média, Senior Partner, Norton Rose Fulbright Canada, S.E.N.C.R.L., s.r.l.
This bursary will enable these young entrepreneurs, who both have degrees in mechanical engineering and are now studying business at the Université de Sherbrooke, to complete the system’s technological development and market it.
With this technology, Oneka hopes to become the leading authority in designing low-cost ocean wells.
This business stems from the Odyssée student project, and has been receiving guidance from the Accélérateur de création d’entreprises technologiques (ACET-accelerator for the creation of technological businesses).
