Marie Fortier Wins the National Bank Clinical Innovation Award
Clinical nurse Marie Fortier was awarded the 2014 National Bank Clinical Innovation Award by the Ordre régional des infirmières et infirmiers de l’Estrie for her Web site mescoursprenataux.com, which offers a series of 40 prenatal classes in video format.
The aim of this innovative project is to make quality information available to future parents at all times. Presented by a health professional, the videos also include many collaborators–nurses, gynecologists, midwives, sexologists, etc.
“Clearly, the current health system is not meeting the needs of future parents in Quebec. Access to personnel skilled in perinatology is not always easy, and written documents don’t provide parents with enough information to prepare them for childbirth. The Web site mescoursprenataux.com is a concrete, practical, current, and most of all accessible solution for everybody, at anytime, anywhere,” says the woman who was nicknamed “the baby nurse.”
The prenatal classes became available online in August 2013 in three subscription packages. You can also choose to watch individual videos.
The National Bank Clinical Innovation Award values the clinical contribution of nurses to the quality of care provided to the population, the efficiency of health care, and the advancement of the nursing profession.
A $1000 grant comes with the award, and all regional recipients become eligible to win the Grand Clinical Innovation Award, which will be given in November 2014 during the annual convention of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec.
Earlier in 2014, Marie Fortier’s project was ranked among the regional winners of the 16th edition of the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest.
