Esteban Chornet, Co-Founder of Enerkem, Receives Prestigious Don Klass Award
Esteban Chornet, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Enerkem, a company in Sherbrooke, was presented with the 2013 Don Klass Award for Excellence in Thermochemical Conversion Science at the recent tcbiomass2013 conference in Chicago.
This award recognizes Dr. Chornet’s exceptional contributions in pioneering technology innovations in the field of bioenergy.
Enerkem produces biofuels and green chemicals from waste materials, and Esteban Chornet has been working on its technology platform since the 1970s, particularly while he was a professor at the Université de Sherbrooke.
“Dr. Chornet’s life work in engineering and science research, academia, and business has notably changed the global bioenergy industry and will surely help enable a sustainable future,” said Vann Bush, conference co-chair and Managing Director of the Energy Conversion Sector at the Gas Technology Institute, which organized the event.
Dr. Chornet has received a number of awards and distinctions during his career. He is also a fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society of Canada.
