Université de Sherbrooke’s Pierre-Claude Aïtcin Receives the 2013 Prize for Excellence from Quebec’s Association of Professional Engineers
The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ – association of professional engineers) awarded its highest honour—the Award for Excellence—to Pierre-Claude Aïtcin, a Université de Sherbrooke professor emeritus.
The Sherbrooke engineer had a brilliant career as a professor and researcher in the university’s Department of Civil Engineering. A specialist in concrete, he led the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial Chair on concrete from 1989 to 1998 and created the Research Centre on Concrete Infrastructure (CRIB) in 1989. His endeavours contributed to the Université de Sherbrooke earning a place as one of the world’s leading concrete research centres.
Aïtcin has taken part in many of Canada’s civil-engineering projects, in particular, the Confederation Bridge, connecting Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick.
The 2013 Award for Excellence joins the many prizes and awards that Aïtcin has received over the years from Canadian, French, and American bodies.
The OIQ Award for Excellence recognizes an engineer for his or her vision, innovation, and social engagement.
