Université de Sherbrooke: inauguration of the new 3IT pavilion
Ultraperformant laboratories, highly qualified research teams, innovative projects with promising results: the Université de Sherbrooke’s Institut interdisciplinaire d’innovation technologique (3IT) is a world class research infrastructure, unique in North America.
Inaugurated July 16th, 2012, the 3IT aims to develop technologies and innovative products in collaboration with companies, mostly from the health, information and communications, transport, security and energy sectors.
Already, more than 80 companies and organizations have establish collaborations with the 3IT since its creation in 2008. Among them, Bell Canada, Bombardier, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic USA and Siemens Canada.
Situated in Université de Sherbrooke’s Innovation Park, the 3IT received a $24.7 M investment. The Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE) ($10 M), Economic Development Canada ($6.6 M) and Université de Sherbrooke ($8.1 M) have contributed. Equipment valued at $20 M complete the infrastructure.
Strengthen scientific leadership
The 3IT hosts about 35 researchers, 60 professionals and research technicians as well as 300 students.
The Prime Minister and Sherbrooke representative, Jean Charest, took advantage of the official opening to announce a grant of $1.8 M for the creation of a program to attract at least two renowned nanotechnology researchers. The financial assistance comes from the Research support program of Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE) .
