Québec Allocates $300 000 for Development of the SAGE-Innovation ACCORD Cluster
The Health and Social Services Centre — University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke (CSSS-IUGS) has been allocated $300 000 by the Government of Québec to develop the ACCORD aging and autonomy cluster, recently renamed SAGE-Innovation.
Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships have a worldwide reputation for their expertise in the fields of aging and autonomy. This funding has been granted to further develop the grey economy by creating innovative businesses that meet the needs of the elderly.
A new director, Chantal Michel, was subsequently hired. A graduate in technology transfer, Ms. Michel has experience working with businesses and establishments specializing in technology exploitation.
The term “SAGE” is the acronym for Santé, Autonomie, Gérontotechnologies, and Estrie; it also refers to the wisdom of seniors.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Minister responsible for Seniors, and Minister responsible for the Estrie region, Réjean Hébert, on behalf of the Minister for Industrial Policy and the Banque de développement économique du Québec, Élaine Zakaïb.
