A Mobile App to Pay for Parking in the Downtown Area

Drivers can now pay for their parking space in downtown Sherbrooke using a new mobile app, B-CITI Sherbrooke.

The app, available on iOS and Android, can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play.B-CITI Sherbrooke

With B-CITI Sherbrooke, time can be added without having to go back to the meter.  A reminder is sent to the user a few minutes before expiry of the payment.

Two payment methods are available:

1. Prepaid bank of parking hours– $10, $20, or $50

  • Enables the user to free up their parking space and not pay for unused minutes
  • 10% purchase fee
  • No user fee

2. Pay-as-you-go

  • Purchases in 15-minute segments
  • $0.22 fee per transaction

In both cases, the time added by a new payment extends the initial duration of parking without taking away the remaining minutes. Payment receipts are archived and can be forwarded by e‑mail.

Through visual recognition, it is possible to capture the parking space number simply by scanning it with a smart phone.

The app was developed in collaboration with B-CITI Solutions, a Québec technological start-up. It is an open-ended platform to which other uses will be incorporated. Beginning next year, B‑CITI Sherbrooke will offer the possibility of requesting and paying for a parking permit online. In the long-term, the City wants to develop a system incorporating digital billing with online payment.

The development of B-CITI Sherbrooke fits within the vision of a smart city and of Well Inc., the projected downtown entrepreneur district.

Payment at the meter remains a possibility. Downtown Sherbrooke has 1970 pay parking spaces.
