La Ruche Has Arrived in Estrie!
The proximity crowdfunding platform La Ruche launched its Estrie division May 9, 2017, in Sherbrooke.
Based on the principle of crowdfunding, such as Kickstarter, La Ruche enables promoters from the region to collect the funds necessary for their project through the financial support of the community. As for the contributors, they receive compensations (exclusive products, special offers, discounts, etc.) according to the nature of the project and the value of the contribution. Note that the promoters will only receive money if their objective is reached, and the donors will not be charged if the promoters do not meet this condition.
Innovating from its status as a NPO, the organization sets itself apart with its regional proximity concept. “All of the projects submitted to La Ruche Estrie must leave a social, economic or cultural mark on the region,” explained Mélanie Grégoire, co-founder of La Ruche Estrie.
Another notable advantage: the NPO offers guidance, before and after the campaign, through regional ambassadors who act as “angel consultants.”
Those who launch a project will be able to benefit from the expertise and knowledge of a network of 51 entrepreneurs from various backgrounds, who are well-known in the region. Notable members on the list include Peter Cassar of SherWeb, Pierre Marcouiller of Camso, and singer-songwriter, Vincent Vallières.
Already established in Québec, Montréal, Mauricie, and the Bas-Saint-Laurent regions, La Ruche has succeeded in raising $1.6 million to assist 160 new projects to be completed since its launch in 2013. The success rate has reached 60% and the network of ambassadors counts no fewer than 200.
