More and More IT Grads from the Cégep de Sherbrooke

In fall 2017, the Cégep de Sherbrooke will conduct a complete overhaul of its Information Technology program (Techniques de l’informatique) to better meet current needs in the field. In fact, interest in this area seems to be growing in popularity, as courses for the next session of certain IT programs are full!

In terms of fall 2017 admissions, the regular program Techniques de l’informatique was quickly filled in the first round. In continuing education, the program Gestion de réseaux informatiques (GRI—Computer Network Management) recorded its largest cohort since its inception. Feedback from students in the program’s last cohort was very positive. As a matter of fact, the 20 or so GRI grads have almost all found employment through their work internships.

“The candidates experience an immersion here with us. They can pick up knowledge that complements their training thanks to their internships, and learn how the business functions. If it goes well, we’ll offer them a job,” stated Javier Doig, Audit Head at Media 5 Corporation, who has hired three GRI graduates. Several Estrie region businesses and organizations have hired graduates from this program, including SherWebBravadQuébécomm, and the Université de Sherbrooke.

Patrick Simoneau, Talent Acquisition Manager at SherWeb, has commented on the importance of a rapidly expanding company encouraging the next generation of workers: “We have critical needs, we’re booming, and it’s fundamental that we support students in regular studies and continuing education. They are a wealth of talent for us.”

Last May, the CEGEP launched its very first Web Development program enhancing its continuing education offerings. “Leading to an attestation of college studies, the program addresses a need in the region, in an activity sector that is much in demand,” stated a recent Cégep de Sherbrooke press release. In this regard, Sherbrooke Innopole has joined forces with the CEGEP to update the program and to thus help it better meet the needs of Sherbrooke businesses.

The Cégep de Sherbrooke’s Information Technology department will begin revising and updating the program this fall. “The close cooperation between this department and the centre for continuing education plays a key role in the program offerings in this promising field, where placement rates can be as high as 100%,” stated the Cégep de Sherbrooke’s spokesperson.
