Electric Motorcycle EMUS Champion at the eMotoRacing Varsity Challenge
After a victory on four wheels with the electric vehicle Beyond, the Université de Sherbrooke has dominated on two wheels: the EMUS team and its electric motorcycle finished first in the 2016 eMotoRacing Varsity Challenge.
EMUS (Electric Motorcycle of UdeS) surpassed the champions from the previous edition – the Rochester Institute of Technology – during the competition’s two races, which took place in New Jersey.
The mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering student team from the UdeS took home the two parts of the $1000 scholarship.
The EMUS motorcycle, driven by Samuel Proulx, also obtained great results against the commercial electric motorcycles on the track, with a 4th place, and a 2nd place in the overall ranking, despite a few hiccups.
The prototype developed by the 25 future engineers is equipped with an engine of almost 215 hp and can reach up to 250 km/h. Its 15-kWh Li-ion battery provides it with an autonomy of more than 150 km.
