Chair in Respiratory Health: Toward New Asthma Treatment Strategies
To date, the asthma research of Pierre Larivée, a professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, has made it possible to identify the important role played by diet in asthma, and particularly the contribution of zinc. Larivée will now build on this research to develop new treatment strategies.
This new phase in Larivée’s research is part of the process of renewing the Québec Lung Association’s Chair in Respiratory Health Research, which he holds.
This second term also expands the chair’s field of research to other respiratory diseases such as annual influenza infections and emphysema. Clinical studies will be conducted on new treatments with a view to achieving remission.
The chair’s research component will continue to investigate the effect of zinc in order to reveal any connections it has to the disease’s manifestation and seriousness in children and adult patients.
The chair has been granted funding of $945,000 until 2017.
