PRESS RELEASE – The Coopérative de solidarité du Cégep de Sherbrooke (solidarity cooperative) is pursuing major growth initiatives, with financial support from Sherbrooke Innopole.

The business recently added management of the Pavilion 6 cafeteria to its service offer. The acquisition of this major food component is requiring the purchase and modernization of existing equipment. At the same time, the Cégep de Sherbrooke is in the process of renovating the premises, with a plan to reopen the venue when courses resume in fall 2015.

The Coop du Cégep de Sherbrooke has just finished moving the bookstore that it has been managing since 2012. The new, larger sales space is located across from the cafeteria, on the second floor of Pavilion 6.

In the context of this expansion project, assistance in the amount of $50 000 is being granted through Sherbrooke Innopole’s Social Economy Businesses Development Fund (FDEES). The Coop du Cégep de Sherbrooke has also obtained aid from the Corporation de développement économique communautaire de Sherbrooke (CDEC Community Economic Development Corporation).

The complete project, at an estimated cost of $375 000, will result in the creation of 10 full-time positions, the consolidation of 11 others, and the retention of 29 part-time jobs.

Along with the bookstore, the Coop du Cégep de Sherbrooke is managing all of the food services on the college’s campus. In addition to the cafeteria, it already manages a bistro, the student café L’Équitable, and a catering service, which all incorporate the values of local sourcing as well as healthy, fair-trade products.
