Portable Winch at a Trade Show in Indonesia // Sherbrooke International
Auteur : Sherbrooke Innopole
As part of the Sherbrooke International program, selected Sherbrooke businesses have received direct support for their development outside Québec. Sherbrooke International is proud to encourage and support Sherbrooke businesses to shine internationally. After each of these significant projects, participants are invited to share their experiences through a blog post.
From September 6 to 9, 2017, Benoit Laliberté, International Sales Director at the Portable Winch Co., took part in a trade show in Jakarta, Indonesia. He recounted his experience:
The Electric, Power and Renewable Energy trade event brought together stakeholders in the electricity transmission and distribution sector in Indonesia, an archipelago of 17 000 islands with a population 250 million (ranking 4th worldwide). In all, close to 950 exhibitors were present, and more than 20 000 visitors toured the exhibition site.
Working in Indonesia presents unique challenges for a SME from Québec, and this mission would have never happened without funding from Sherbrooke Innopole. Portable Winch Co. stood out by presenting a solution for Indonesian companies working in remote regions, especially on islands where heavy equipment is either unavailable or too costly to use. Note that Portable Winch designs innovative winches, providing great autonomy and ensuring safety; they are portable, compact, and easy to use.
In total, some 30 companies expressed interest in portable winches, including the state-owned power company, PLN. After the event, Jakarta’s Fire & Rescue Department participated in a demonstration of Portable Winch’s winches.
It’s well known that Indonesia is a country where business transpires slowly. But it is also a place where personal relationships take precedence. The presence of Portable Winch at the Electric, Power and Renewable Energy Show for a second time enabled the company to reassert its commitment to its local partners and its clients.
