Supermétal has wind in its sails! The company, specializing in manufacturing and installing steel structures, has won two major contracts in Montréal: the first for the Turcot Interchange, and the second for the Maison Manuvie.

The first contract, for the Turcot Interchange, is the largest ever obtained by Supermétal since it was launched in 1959. 16 000 tonnes of steel will be required to make the roughly 50 bridges that it must deliver to KPH Turcot!

The company must supply the first batch of girder bridges in spring 2016. The project has a three-year timeframe, providing work for its employees throughout this period.

Supermétal has also been chosen by Ivanhoé Cambridge to work on the Maison Manuvie project, a 27-storey office tower currently under construction on Maisonneuve Boulevard West, in the heart of downtown Montréal. A Québec company, Supermétal has been mandated to provide the structure for the skyscraper’s atrium and office floors.

There is more good news for the company. It also recently obtained two major contracts in Ontario—for a power plant supplied by natural gas located in Napanee and a steel mill in Sault Ste. Marie.

Labour force needs

The two mandates in Montréal will be carried out entirely in Supermétal’s Québec plants, located in Lévis and Sherbrooke. “We are always looking for passionate people to join our welding/assembly team,” stated Jean-François Blouin, President/General Manager at Supermétal.

Currently, the Sherbrooke plant employs 100 workers. Job openings for welders, fitters (steel structures), and general labourers are posted on the company’s Web site.

The Sherbrooke plant specializes in extra-heavy steel work, large-scale items, and bridge structures.
