New Name and New Wing for the CHUS’s Research Centre
A breath of fresh air has hit the CHUS’s Centre de recherche clinique Étienne-Le Bel (CRCELB – Clinical Research Centre): from now on, the institution will be known as the Centre de recherche du CHUS (CR-CHUS) and a new wing has just been inaugurated.
The expansion, covering a surface area of nearly 7000 m2, has doubled the amount of research space at the CHUS (Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke). The new wing features three floors of laboratories and offices.
Dr. Réjean Hébert, Minister of Health and Social Services, Minister Responsible for Seniors, Minister responsible for the Estrie Region, and Member for Saint-François; Dr. Stéphane Tremblay, CHUS Acting General Director; Martin Toussaint, Project Leader, CR-CHUS; Dr. William Fraser, Scientific Director, CR-CHUS; Jacques Fortier, Chair, CHUS Board of Directors.
This project required an investment of $31.7 million, of which $25.2 million came from the Government of Quebec, $6 million from the CHUS foundation, and $500 000 from the CR-CHUS. The final phase is underway—redesigning the former premises to add spaces for clinical research.
New signature
Founded in 1980, the CHUS’s research centre will pursue its activities under this new designation, which places the focus on all of the types of research conducted at the CHUS – fundamental, clinical, epidemiological, and evaluative.
One of the CR-CHUS’s two wings will be called the Pavillon Étienne-Le Bel in tribute to Dr. Étienne-Le Bel.
A total of 900 people work at the CHUS’s research centre: 220 researchers, 500 students, and more than 180 professionals.
