The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMSS) of the Université de Sherbrooke received a major grant from Merck Canada. The $4 million grant will be used for translational research in areas in which there are still unmet medical needs.

Merck Canada contributed the same amount to the faculties of medicine at the Université de Montréal, McGill University, and Université Laval.

The grant will help the Université de Sherbrooke recruit seasoned researchers and retain graduate students.

“Translational research focuses on removing barriers between researchers, medical teams, and patients. It allows lab findings to be more rapidly and effectively transferred to medical practice,” explained Jean-Pierreault, FMSS Vice-Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.

The Merck Canada grant coincides with the research contract announced by NEOMED on September 26 at the Sherbrooke International Life Sciences Summit.
