Rackam Launches its First Solar-powered Wastewater Treatment Project

In November, Rackam, a Sherbrooke company specialized in solar thermal energy, will launch its first pilot project in the City of Surprise, Arizona, testing its innovative solar solution on the city’s wastewater treatment.

Using S20 parabolic solar concentrators developed by Rackam, a small portion of the sludge from the City of Surprise’s wastewater treatment will be dried. Then this dried matter will be ready for reuse.

Throughout this project, Rackam will be collaborating with the American company Heat2Hydro, which markets environmental solutions. The services of these two businesses complement one another; therefore, this partnership could produce great results for the Sherbrooke company.

The wastewater treatment and desalinization sectors, which use very similar techniques, are promising sectors for Rackam. According to Jacques-Alexandre Fortin, Rackam’s Vice-President and Director of Marketing, the test conducted in Surprise could open the doors to a multi-billion-dollar market, should the test prove conclusive.

With this new project, Rackam now has 11 facilities around the world.
