Beyond, the Université de Sherbrooke’s Electric Vehicle, Dominated the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas
The winning streak of the Université de Sherbrooke continued at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas: the electric vehicle Beyond, developed by electrical and mechanical engineering students, took first place in the Battery-Electric Prototype category.
With an energy efficiency result of 731 km/kWh, the Sherbrooke single-seater significantly outperformed its closest opponents, Oregon State University (414 km/kWh) and Duke University (406 km/kWh). On the same occasion, Project Beyond beat its previous top result of 449.9 km/kWh achieved in 2015.
At the end of the competition, which took place in Detroit, Michigan, the UdeS team also won the Vehicle Design Award, for the quality of the electrical and mechanical design.
Project Beyond aims at designing, manufacturing, assembling, and testing an electric single-seater vehicle, including the motor, electronic components, bodywork, and chassis.
It should be noted that in 2014, the UdeS’s E-Volve project won the Shell Eco-marathon Americas in the urban concept/battery-electric category.
