Green Light to Extend Portland Boulevard
The Government of Québec has authorized the extension of Portland Boulevard as proposed by the Ville de Sherbrooke.
The project will be completed at a cost of $15.5 M and will allow for a 1.6-km extension to Industriel Boulevard.
Construction will begin in January 2015. The Ville de Sherbrooke now has the certificate of authorization from the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight against Climate Change) in hand and is working on finalizing the plans and estimated costs.
Once completed, the project will enable the Sherbrooke Regional Industrial Park to offer prestigious new industrial sites.
In an upcoming phase, the Portland Boulevard extension will be part of the René-Lévesque Boulevard construction. The new road will join Industriel and Bourque boulevards via Haut-Bois Street. Evaluated at $50.4 million, the entire project will add 4.9 km to the local road network.
