Université de Sherbrooke ranks 1st in Canada in sustainable development
Université de Sherbrooke did very well in the international ranking of Universitas Indonesia GreenMetric World University Ranking (WUR): the Sherbrooke institution came in 1st in Canada and 6th world-wide.
UdeS stands out in three categories in measures taken by Universities to promote sustainable development: waste management, sustainable transportation and water management.
UdeS earned the highest grade in the latter category, 1,000 points, thanks to the gradual installation of low-flow devices equipped with movement detectors on the main campus, gradual elimination of equipment using aqueduct water on a continuous basis and a ban on outside watering.
The UdeS waste management program enables it to recover 80% of the potential recoverable value of these materials.
The UdeS transportation initiatives are also noteworthy: free access to public transportation, introduction of hybrid or electrical vehicles, measures to encourage walking and biking, etc.
Université de Sherbrooke earned 6796.90 points in the global ranking, ahead of Ottawa University (6625.46 points) and York University (6620.06 points).
