Enerkem awarded a prize in ecodesign
Enerkem has been recognized for its cellulosic biofuel produced from waste at the 2nd provincial contest in ecodesign.
The Sherbrooke based company converts non-recyclable waste into ethanol. Once mixed with gasoline, this substance offers a much cleaner burning. Enerkem biofuel can reduce CO2 emissions by over 60% in comparison to those of a conventional fuel.
Enerkem is the winner in the B2B – Medium Business category. Five other winners and 12 finalists complete the list of the 2012 overall winners of the contest organized by Novae, in association with the Institut de développement de produits.
Enerkem won in its class, ahead of Eureka Lighting, with its lighting solution Pur 3430, and Philips Lumec, with its lampposts UrbanScape and MetroScape.
The contest aims to reward the best initiatives in ecodesign across Québec.
Ecodesign is an approach that takes into account environmental and social impacts, in the design and development of a product, and throughout its lifecycle.
