Sherbrooke to Host 1st Hackathon Based on Public Open Data
More than 150 programmers, students, and professionals from across Québec are expected in Sherbrooke from March 10 to 12, 2017 for the first programming competition based on public open data.
The event, HackQC, aims to create original transportation and sustainable mobility applications within 48 hours.
In teams of 4 to 6 people, participants will draw from the Données Québec government portal, which has compiled nearly 790 data sets from 38 Québec ministries, organizations, and municipalities.
The teams will also have access to mentors and conferences throughout the event. The winners will share a $10 000 bursary.
The apps will be scored based on the following criteria:
- Innovation and originality
- Idea sharing and collaboration
- User experience
- Promoting active transportation and diversity in transportation modes
- Usefulness to Quebecers
