Dr. Jacques Pepin named International Personality of the Year
Dr. Jacques Pepin, professor at the Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé at the Université de Sherbrooke, was awarded the title of International Personality of the Year.
The infectious disease specialist at the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) was celebrated on March 29, 2012, for his work on the origins of HIV / AIDS in Africa, published by Cambridge University Press in 2011 under the title The Origins of AIDS.
Dr. Pepin is honored to receive this award from the Centre d’études et de recherches internationales de l’Université de Montréal (CERIUM), the team ofUne heure sur terre, a Radio Canada’s television program, and Le Devoir.
“To me, this award recognizes the work and efforts put into my research on the origins of AIDS and HIV, he says. To publish this book was not only a moral obligation to the 33 million victims, but also a way to draw from it useful lessons for the future.”
This award adds to other recognitions including Scientist of the Year, a title Dr. Jacques Pepin received from Radio-Canada in January 2012.
