Enerkem Signs Three Agreements with China
Enerkem has announced the creation of three partnerships with Chinese companies as part of the Government of Québec’s trade missions in China, at the end of October 2014.
The company, which has an R&D centre in Sherbrooke, first ratified a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Environmental Group Co. Ltd., a waste management company.
Enerkem also reached an agreement with the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI), a government research institute and company working in R&D, manufacturing, and service delivery.
Lastly, Enerkem signed a partnership with Qingdao City Construction Investment Group Co. Ltd., a construction company owned by the municipal government of Qingdao.
The three agreements provide for the joint construction of plants for the production of biofuels and chemical products from waste. In each case, Enerkem will grant operating licenses for its proprietary technology.
With its modular manufacturing approach, Enerkem plans to continue to contract Québec suppliers to manufacture certain equipment.
According to Vincent Chornet, President and Chief Executive Officer of Enerkem, the three projects represent investments of $500M.
