SIB Electric Will Soon be Building a New Larger Plant

SIB - Surplec Industriel

PRESS RELEASE – SIB Electric will soon begin construction of a new 26 500 sq. ft. plant on a newly acquired lot at 4150 Lesage St. in the Sherbrooke Regional Industrial Park.

The expansion project estimated at $2M will enable the business to consolidate its Sherbrooke operations in a single more spacious and functional facility. Activities are currently taking place in two buildings on Godin Road. SIB Electric will also be bringing back to Sherbrooke part of its production currently based in Laval.

Three people have already been hired in the efforts to support the growth of the business in Sherbrooke. These new positions were added to the 27 consolidated employees, including 21 in Sherbrooke. SIB Electric is planning on moving into its new facilities at the end of August 2017.

“We are about to write a new page in the history of SIB Electric; it’s very exciting!” said President Danny Bennett. “We will now own our new plant; it will be 50% larger than the surface area we currently have at our disposal; and we will achieve substantial efficiency gains by setting it up as needed to meet the increasing demand.”

For Josée Fortin, Director General of Sherbrooke Innopole: “SIB Electric is a flagship in the region, which has been pursuing its original mission—reclaiming electrical equipment—a mission in line with the current trends of circular economy. We are happy to have supported the management team in its relocation and expansion project in Sherbrooke”.

In Sherbrooke since 1987, the business is involved in manufacturing, refurbishing, and repairing low-voltage distribution equipment (motor control centres, switchgears, etc.). It also offers a variety of new and used products, for sale or rent.

Its products are namely intended for the mining and pulp and paper industries. Its recent projects include Orbite Technologies’ new high-purity alumina refinery in Cap-Chat and Enerkem’s first full-scale advanced biofuels and chemicals production facility in Edmonton.

The SIB Génératrices division specializes in the sale and maintenance of residential and commercial generators in the Estrie region.
