Three New Research Chairs Created at Université de Sherbrooke

The Université de Sherbrooke continues to stand out as a leader in university research in Canada: three new research chairs are being set up in the fields of chronic pain, diabetes, and cancer.

These three chairs, as well as the renewed funding for the Canada Research Chair in Adolescent Delinquency, will receive funding totaling $3.8 million.

Chronic Pain

Under the leadership of Professor Philippe Sarret, the Chronic Pain Research Program aims to discover new classes of more effective painkillers to relieve the chronic pain suffered by 20% to 30% of the Canadian population.

Diabetes

The research into diabetes-related complications led by Professor Pedro Miguel Geraldes aims at understanding the effects of sugar and fat levels on the affected tissue.

Cancer

Through his work on messenger RNA, Professor Sherif Abou Elela is seeking to develop tools for detecting and fighting cancer.
